The Samaritan woman leaves her pitchers behind at the well, and tells the people of her village that the Messiah could be just half a mile away. The heads of those Samaritans are the buds in the field which Jesus declares ripe for harvest. But perhaps the disciples are unsure how excited to get that their ancient enemies are the first to receive the salvation of their Messiah. What about us? Is there anyone who, deep down, we wouldn't want to be sharing eternity with us? Perhaps Jesus leads his disciples through Samaria first, so that we might see reconciliation with our enemies as a necessary step on the road to seeing our own loved ones coming to Jesus.
