Thanksgiving - When Your Horn of Plenty is Empty

Last week, we discovered that the act of consciously counting our blessings was the simplest way to resist the Satan's attempts to drive us to despair and depression. While that is true, it is not uniquely Christian; anyone can stay happy by recognizing the good things they have. But the Christian calling adds a greater challenge - to be happy, WITH God - alone. Could we be happy even if God-through-Christ was all we had? This is the question Satan asks God concerning Job. But it is really the question Satan asks concerning ALL people who claim Jesus as their greatest treasure. Drawing on the amazing story of living martyr Helen Berhane, we are all challenged to prepare for the possibility that our own "test of Job" may come.
