Footholds and Strongholds

This is part three of our series on the Holy Spirit. The series began by showing the centrality of the Holy Spirit in the Christian Life; apart from Him, you ARE nothing and DO nothing in Christ. Part two warned against quenching and grieving the Holy Spirit, so that the Spirit has free run of your life. But if you believe you have the Spirit, AND there is nothing in your present that should hinder Him from using you, perhaps Satan has a foothold or a stronghold - some "lien" or legal right to keep you from moving and growing in the Spirit. This message draws on the Joshua 7 story often called the "Sin of Achan" to demonstrate how something behind us keeps us from laying hold of what God has placed before us. Pastor Trevor also introduces three strategies (which we will be learning more about in coming days) which are specially designed to help believers systematically invite Jesus into EVERY part of our lives, and uninvite Satan!
