We broke from our Church Growth series, since this Sunday was precisely the 100-year anniversary of the WWI Armistice, the event which is commemorated every November 11th. Because there is a growing debate over whether veterans are actually heroes, or mere victims of a great tragedy, Trevor thought it worthwhile to introduce the idea of "just war." The teachings of Jesus rule out killing for hatred, anger, justice or vengeance, or EVEN self-defense, so we are encouraged to default to Pacifism. Since human life is so precious to God, a Christian should not kill another person unless they could do it with great love in their heart, even towards the person they are killing. In other words, only out of great love for sacred human life should one take sacred human life. If you see this as a contradiction, then you should just remain a Pacifist. But consider the possibility that such a situation may exist, honour those who found themselves in this horrifying dilemma, and pray like crazy for God to spare us all from ever facing such a dilemma again.
