2 Cor. 1:3-7

Through a series of physical object lessons (some which happened in the Children’s Sermon prior to this message), the Pastor attempts to demonstrate the “physics” of comfort, based on its actual etymological definition. Com-fort literally means “strength by joining,” and com-passion literally means “to suffer with.” We learn in our Scripture passage that God’s compassion and his comfort are linked; to those whose suffering and sin Jesus has born, his comfort is known. Jesus asks us to cast our burdens on him, and when we do, he puts HIS yoke upon US. His call on our lives as his Body is to do what his body did: carry someone else’s cross. When we climb under the crosses of the lost and broken, we bring with us HIS comfort, and the Kingdom of God is built. The message ends with an Invitation for non-believers to cast their burdens upon Jesus for the first time, and for believers to continually cast our cares upon him. If we don’t, we cannot extend compassion and comfort to others.
