Marriage as a Gospel Picture

We have come to the familiar text for many Christian weddings! The pastor has chosen to expound primarily on the idea of submission, since this is undoubtedly the most inflammatory aspect of Christian marriage to a secular culture. Pastor Trevor insists that conservative and traditional views of marriage must never replace, or be mistaken for, Christian views of marriage. If people have a view of male headship or female submission that is separated from the Christian framework of authority (Father – Son – Spirit – Church – Husbands – Wives – Children), then it truly is oppressive! However, when a husband leads his wife in the humble, sacrificial manner that Jesus leads his Church, marriage becomes the closest natural picture of the Gospel that God created.
